I have got to admit there's something really emotional about this and all your pieces in general. I know that you have already admitted that your paintings are basically just shitposts, but it feels like it's something more than that at times.

You put all these wildly different and unrelated characters together into absurd melodramatic scenarios, yet I can still feel the impact somehow. These are beloved characters who have stood the test of time and you've rendered them in a way that makes them feel more real sometimes. These are characters we have all felt connected with and you've linked them to each other and your continued production of these pieces begins to feel like a larger narrative and that there's coincidentally something bigger happening in the background that will never be revealed to us.

I can see the remorse in Stan Smith's face and his almost limp stance. Canonically, he's a guy that puts up a good fight but rarely kills. Now he's forced to take the life of a young boy who's been toyed with by destiny and never wanted to do any actual harm to anyone.

Shinji Ikari is known as an a emotional kid - a butt of many jokes - but he cries for a good reason. Nobody really cared about him, he's sexually frustrated, and he went from that quiet kid in the corner to having an apocalypse on his shoulders. Everything he had to go through and all the tough decisions he had to make: all equated to him pathetically holding back his tears to what everyone considered an ignorant, brutish buffoon - an ignorant, brutish buffoon that usually had his heart in the right place.

Stan and Shinji are similar in a sense that they're overly emotional characters forced to make decisions that neither are mentally sound enough to make. I will never understand what brought these two together and perhaps you'll never give me the answer (and I doubt you even know yourself), but whatever it was, I can only imagine the breathtaking and suspenseful moments that build up to this gut-wrenching scene.

Even though you create these on the daily, it does not feel rushed. I can still tell that you did these somewhat quickly considering the characters have a slight stiffness to them, the proportions can feel a bit off, and the texture can feel minimal, but that doesn't diminish how impressive what you do is. The characters in the paintings still remarkably feel like themselves and look surprisingly natural together despite coming from animated productions that don't seem anything alike. The dramatic lighting is rather well done and the color choices feel appropriate so that it ties the contrasting characters together along with the story. The background does feel a bit hasty and ambiguous. but still manages to appear appropriate.

Even though you humbly title your artwork as "daily shitposts", the great presentation almost convinces me that there's more to it lurking within even though you probably didn't intend that. I guess it's one of those weird "death of the artist" things or whatever, but I hope you found my bizarre, drawn out interpretation and ramblings to feel amusing and flattering. It perhaps says something about your skill and your sense of humor that I can say all of this for whatever weird reason that compels me.

Whether or not you read all of that above, I hope you have a good day and keep up the good work. Please be a good person and do not disappoint me.

Have a nice day.

Thank you for writing all that! I can't speak to any real deeper meaning but I'm glad my silly drawings can give people so much to think about. I really appreciate the critique and comments.

Your art looks pleasant. The way the colors are paired up with the character presents a bright, wonderful image. The way she leans backwards so casually while still feeling like she's moving is pretty lively.

P.S. SevenSeize is the real Newgrounds mom. However, MkMaffo is really cool too.

ChutneyGlaze responds:

thank you : )

Nice art. Simple and cute. Also the virus' mom is ugly.

HOW DARE YOU DO UOU KNOW WHO I AM I AM IFREAKING BIG YELLOW MAN I WILL TAKE YOU DOWN I wILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND BAKE YOU INTO A PIE YOU MISARABLE BAFFOON!
YOU WILL LOOK IN THE SKY AND SEE ONLY BLACKNESS BECAUSE YPU WILL BE IN A PIE AND THERFORE YOU DONBT EVEN SEE HOW POSSIBLE THE INTERNET WS SO CLOSE AND NOW WILL SUFFER THE PAIN OF BRAIN ATTACK HUGE POOP FALLING FROM SKY ONLY BLOOD FIRE!

This looks like a quality comic. The art is nice and it leaves me wondering where the story is supposed to be going.

I guess if I were to lay out a critique, I'd say make a model sheet to keep it more on model, but maybe you've already done that. If you're going for a more off-model style deliberately, then maybe exaggerate the expressions and poses in certain parts to really emphasize the emotions, but careful not to overdo that.
I think you should also try using darker colors in some spots. Your use of color is nice and soft, which does look pleasing, but I think adding darker colors in certain parts on the characters or the background would make everything feel more solid.
Your line work also looks really good, but maybe you should the thicken the lines a bit, especially in a panel like the one where the lizard guys run away.

Overall, clean work with nice colors and adorable designs. I personally would like to see more comics from you.

I only have one other pic I did of my OCs as a model sheet, and even then it's just one pose. I guess I should work on doing model sheets for other reoccurring characters like the princess and villain.

Thanks for recommending the colour suggestion ^^ I used the same sized brush for all the lineart so I guess the weight should change up to match the distance of each character.

Thank you so so much for your feedback! I really appreciate this!

Such gruesome detail and emotion packed into the pixel art. Awesome work as always. And you used the multi-image feature to show us your process!

Miroko responds:

Thank you so much, it's nice to show people where things went wrong lol

You asked for some reviews so here's at least one review.

Pretty cute anime inspired design, though I wonder if this is something you eyeballed or constructed first.

First things first, I think you should brush up on your linework. It's not too crude, but I think it would make your character more attractive if the lines were cleaner/less pixelated and varied the line width depending on what's closer.

Second, I say the colors are a tad too basic looking. Maybe because I feel the hair and eyes should be darker or have a more interesting hue against all the gray in the artwork. Like maybe add a slight reddish-brown hue to the hair and a little more gold to the eyes, but be careful not to over saturate any of the more basic colors
As for the grays itself, don't be afraid to contrast a bit to make it pop. Maybe make the jacket/sleeves darker or even borderline black.

It seems one eye is a bit bigger than the other one. Maybe it's a style thing, but I think maybe make the eyes a bit more similar in size.
I feel the mouth shouldn't have such a big gap. I know that's too soften the mouth a bit, but maybe
shorten that gap a bit to make it feel more like a mouth.

Not really needed, but adding shading and highlights to the hair and eyes among other things
is borderline a must on an anime-style girl, so I don't think it'll hurt if you gave that a shot.

Overall, not bad and you've got some decent framework laid out. Maybe it's an oekaki style artwork,
but maybe do something interesting with your linework & coloring and this will really be a winner.

I hope me writing a big block of text is not a nuisance to you, I just want to help.

I thank you for this review, because most don't. This drawing was done in a rushed time, but most of my art is. Drawings like the one I used for my profile pic, were done in a perfect amount of time with little issues.

I actually had a similar idea to yours to and I was late as heck to Pixel Day myself. I like the vibe of this artwork because it kind of looks like a Mad Max style or Western Newgrounds game I'd like to play.

Morpinorp responds:

Thanks man I appreciate it, id do something in Pico8 with this but im still learning the ropes.
